8) Type in 'cmd' and open the Command Prompt.
9) Type in 'ipconfig /all' and press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard.
10) In the top section of the printed text you will find the 'Ethernet adapter Ethernet' section.
Here you will find the following information we need next:
- IP address
- Subnet mask
- Default gateway
- DNS Servers
11) In the 'TCP/IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4)' that we left open from before you want to tick the radio-buttons that says:
- Use the following IP address:
- Use the following DNS server addresses:
12) In these new fields, you want to enter the information we recently found in Command Prompt for the following options:
- Subnet mask
- Default gateway
- DNS Servers (Preferred DNS server - leave the Alternate DNS server blank)
13) For the 'IP address' we want to specify a new one that no one on your subnet is using and we'll find this by typing 'arp -a' in the Command Prompt.
14) Locate the Interface section that contains your IP and find an IP that is not occupied. This meaning:
If my current IP is 87.132.92.62, we want to find a replacement for the '62' since this is your IP, while the '87.132.92' is your subnet.
As an example I can see in command prompt that 87.132.92.200 is not currently occupied by someone else on your subnet, so we can use this IP!
15) In the 'TCP/IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4)' we want to enter our new IP in the field that says 'IP address'.
16) Click the 'OK' button.
17) Now you're using a NEW static IP address.
